  1. Parents are always protective. My parents and little boy crying both explore childhood experiences but from different perspectives. The former is where the persona is overly protected by his parents from the rough ragamuffin children in the neighbourhood whereas the latter although protected by his parent via a “quick slap struck” cannot u derstand why.
In the former he wants to be friends but they “never smile in return.” In the latterthe parent is trying to teach a lesson “never make a plaything of the rain.” The child in little boy Crying thi ks of the father as an ogre, a monster he wishes him dead. Whereas the boy in my parents is regretful and sad.
My parents uses several animal imagery and similes to describe the other boys who ostracise and mock the persona; the poet uses the jack and the beanstalk fairytale to convey his personas feelings.
