Characters and Characterization Explained

Share

Who or what is a character?

A character can be defined as a person, animal, or thing that plays a role in a work of fiction (story, novel, play, etc).

Major and Minor Characters

  1. Major characters are characters who play a significant role in a work of fiction. This character, therefore, contributes to the development of the plot and conflict.
  2. Minor characters are characters who do not contribute significantly to the development of the plot.

What is characterization?

Characterization is the process by which the writer makes the character come alive. This can be done through direct and indirect characterization.
